Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam gave Pakistan a good start while chasing the target of 120 runs. Bumrah was unlucky when Shivam Dubey dropped one of his catches and gave Rizwan a second life. However, he got Babar out in his second over thanks to a brilliant catch by Suryakumar Yadav. Pakistan’s score was 35/1 in the powerplay. While after the 10th over, India made a strong comeback. Jasprit Bumrah recorded excellent figures of 3/14, while Hardik Pandya took 2/24 and Pakistan needed 18 runs to win in the last over.

Pakistan’s pacers dominated the innings early with their fielders supporting them for most part of the Indian innings as the latter were all out for 119 in 19 overs. However, Virat Kohli was caught by Usman Khan off Naseem Shah in the second over for 4, followed by Shaheen Afridi dismissing Rohit Sharma in the next over as Pakistan took an early lead in their huge clash against India at the Nassau County Stadium. Axar Patel was sent in ahead of Suryakumar Yadav and he, along with Rishabh Pant, gave India some momentum in the powerplay. The pair added 39 runs off 30 balls for the third wicket before Axar fell to Naseem for 20 off 18 balls.

The Pakistani bowlers performed brilliantly and their fielders also supported them well. The pressure resulted in India losing four wickets for just 16 runs between the 11th and 15th overs.

The toss was delayed by half an hour due to rain before the biggest match of the tournament got underway. Pakistan eventually won the toss and decided to bowl first. However, rain resumed after the toss, further delaying the start of the match. When play finally resumed, Rohit Sharma conceded eight runs in the first over bowled by Shaheen Afridi. It was then delayed again due to rain.
